The Meg Starring Jason Statham In Theaters August 10th Promises Thrills, Laughs, And One Pissed Off Shark Diana Marsh, August 2, 2018 What’s behind Pippin is far worse than Swimmer’s Ear. Photo courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures Author Steve Alten’s tale of a prehistoric monster from the deep returning to the surface and terrorizing the oceans once again was not only a brilliant book, but a tempting movie idea that needed just the right team to make it happen. Director Jon Turteltaub (The National Treasure Movies, Las Vegas) was tapped to direct the behemoth that was adapted from a screen play written by Dean Georgaris and Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber that was inspired by the New York Times best-selling book MEG by said author Steve Alten. The synopses below lets fans in on what they can expect out of this “shark tale from Hell.” “In the film, a deep-sea submersible—part of an international undersea observation program—has been attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct, and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific…with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, expert deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is recruited by a visionary Chinese oceanographer (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter Suyin (Li Bingbing), to save the crew—and the ocean itself—from this unstoppable threat: a pre-historic 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. What no one could have imagined is that, years before, Taylor had encountered this same terrifying creature. Now, teamed with Suyin, he must confront his fears and risk his own life to save everyone trapped below…bringing him face to face once more with the greatest and largest predator of all time.” Starring Jason Statham, Li BingBing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, and Cliff Curtis, the movie, shot in New Zealand and China, is characterized as a story of redemption with some laughs, some scares, and a whole lot of far fetched fun. Statham even decribes it as “the ultimate popcorn movie.” We’ll take your word on that one, Jason. Image courtesy of Warner Bros.
