First contact has gone well for some in the Star Trek universe, and then there’s Q and 10-C. Both have been aggressively invasive, both have technically made first contact themselves (who would create and then send out a giant world-destroying DMA and think no one would notice and start asking questions), and have inflicted debilitating damage to the species they bumped into along the way. Not the best way to start things off but at least with 10-C there’s a chance that this is all somehow a big misunderstanding born out of an intergalactic ignorance of what was going on on the other side of the wormhole. With Q, you also at least know where you possibly stand; on one foot, tapping your head with one hand and rubbing your stomach with the other while dressed as a matador. One destroys your planet, the other can destroy your will to live. Fun times!

In Discovery’s epsiode Rosetta, the crew try to prep themselves for the actual first contact with 10-C by visitng a bascially deflated gas giant that may actually have been inhabitited by 10-C until some kind of catastrophe forced them to leave. While several mind-blowing discoveries are made it may come with a unforceable consequnce. I’d be shocked if those who were affected by the green dust come away completely unscathed but we’ll see.

Picard on the other hand is going to go through…stuff. We’ve got Borgs, we’ve got timeline shifts, we’ve got relationship issues, personal issues, old friends getting us drunk, I mean the list goes on but Q’s shennanigans will be at the forefront either directly or indirectly. And I’m not sure what’s worth. It’s also very obvious Q isn’t well which is really going to make things brutal and weird. But, there is hope.
