Simply Put Season Two Of Star Trek: Lower Decks Is An Absolute Blast Diana Marsh, August 12, 2021August 12, 2021 Can you ever have too much Riker in your life? The correct answer is no. Season two starts off with former Cerritos crew member Officer Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) getting put through his paces on Captain William Riker’s (Jonathan Frakes) ship the U.S.S Titan which is just one high-intensity mission after another with a crew that is cool but world-wearied but heroic yet slightly self-absorbed. Meanwhile, his former colleagues on the U.S.S Cerritos are involved in normal, everyday things like negotiating contracts with exhaustively demanding aliens, cleaning out an old collector’s ship worth a considerable amount of money in any alien denomination, or coming to the aid of an endangered species being exploited by the Ferengi because they’re like that, all the while dealing with interpersonal relationships warped a bit by ship life. It’s definitely Star Trek but with far better animation, dialog, and gloriously crude humor than in TAS. Officer Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) with Ensigns Tendi (Noël Wells) and Rutherford (Eugene Cordero) in Mariner’s favorite place to decompress after a long day of insubordination, the brig. If you or someone you love (even someone you mildly tolerate) used to be a Star Trek fan but slowly backed away from fandom due to any number of reasons, Star Trek: Lower Decks should absolutely be on your/their Things To Binge ASAP list. It’s fun, the animation is great, the storylines are fresh (well as fresh as possible when you consider the massive amount of Star Trek content that is out there), and the writing is first-class. Plus the cameos are ridiculously entertaining so it’s a win all the way around, even for the most jaded Star Trek Fan.
