Psych 2 Lassie Come Home Is A Hysterical Follow Up To The Original That Doesn’t Miss A Beat Diana Marsh, July 16, 2020July 16, 2020 The boys are back and stranger than ever. Photo courtesy of TVWeb.com Psych 2 starts off with a bang (sorry for the pun) with Chief Lassiter reliving his near-death experience from being shot multiple times during a bust gone wrong (again, sorry for the pun) with the perpetrator escaping. While being treated for his injuries at a local rehabilitation facility, Lassie begins to see things around the hospital that no one else seems to and experiences constant flashbacks of the shooting, regardless if he’s awake or asleep. Hell-bent on getting Lassie home, Shawn and Gus step up for some Psyche-style sleuthing to try and find the root of Lassie’s hallucinations which leads a displaced police dog, a dismembered hand, and round after round of medical professionals telling everyone to not give in to Lassie’s hallucinations or fantasies and just politely ignore them. Choosing loyalty over medical advice (not always the best reason to ignore Dr’s orders. That’s how you get Goop Magazine) Shawn and Gus embark on a journey that involves drug-laced snacks, Norweigan vodka, VIP earmuffs, and cats. Sounds a lot like my college days. Ehem, moving along. Joel McHale, the Obi Won of flashbacks. Photo courtesy of Vulture.com Unbeknownst to the outside world, a crime ring has been installed into the rehab hospital enabling hospital staff to obtain private information of their high dollar patients, information that can be used to blackmail or extort money from vulnerable residents, so when Lassie noticing weird things and asking questions, he needed to be dealt with by the most trusted professional in nearly any hospital, a nurse, but more specifically for him, his nurse, Dolores (played by Sarah Chalke.) While Shawn and Gus are dealing with another patient at the rehab hospital who has enough information on the crime ring to bring the whole place down, Nurse Dolores and Lassie have one finale standoff (with a little help from a hallucination of the long-dead but much loved Lassie Sr played by Joel McHale) that puts an end to Lassie’s time at the facility in an incredibly meaningful way. You might cry, you might not, and that’s ok if you don’t, you heartless prick. Psych 2 Lassie Come Home is a lot of fun, filled with lots of pop culture references and cameos (Corbin Bernsen also makes an appearance as Shawn’s Dad Henry Spencer) that most fans would really enjoy plus just enough throwbacks to the first movie to satisfy avid fans but not so much that a newb wouldn’t enjoy it as well. It’s well written, has a great score, and rounds the series and first movie out quite nicely.
