Garrity” Releasing Sept 4 Mpls Photo Center and DiWulf Publishing are pleased to announce a special event to commemorate the release of “Pushed Beyond All Reasonable Limits: The Music Photography of Brian D. Garrity.” Starting with an opening reception on Friday, September 8, 2023, and running for five weeks through October 14th, Mr. Garrity’s photography will be on display. At the opening reception, Mr. Garrity will be available to sign copies of “Pushed” and discuss his work in depth. Minneapolis-based photographer and historian Brian Garrity, whose work has graced the pages of Rolling Stone, Spin, Alternative Press, and other print and online outlets, has put together his first book documenting his time photographing some of the biggest artists of the ’80s and ’90s. He celebrates the era of the “embedded rock journalist/photographer” with a brilliant series of photographs. Based around Minneapolis’ most well-known venues, “Pushed” showcases Garrity’s stomping grounds with a variety of shots ranging from unbelievable live action and posed photoshoots of artists like Radiohead, Marilyn Manson, Rancid, Nirvana, Husker Du, Babes in Toyland, Lunachicks, Ice Cube, Motorhead, Evan Dando and Julianna Hatfield, Garbage, Rollins Band, Deftones, Luscious Jackson, Pigface, Hole, Descendents, Limp Bizkit, Alien Sex Fiend, The Offspring, The Melvins, and so many more. Brian Garrity said, “Mpls Photo Center is the perfect venue for my prints, and I could not be more excited about working with Jeffrey Harrington and the staff there. It’s important to keep the art of photography alive, especially photography using film, dark rooms, and analog cameras. These traditional techniques hold a unique charm and contribute to the rich history of photography.” Jeffrey Harrington, Owner/Executive Director of Mpls Photo Center, couldn’t agree more. He elaborated, “Brian Garrity’s debut book is a fascinating project that captures a significant era in music and photography. The concept of being a rock photographer during the ’80s and ’90s, especially focusing on Minneapolis’ prominent venues, is likely to resonate with fans of both music and photography.” He continued, “The fact that his work has been featured in respected publications adds to his credibility and experience. Brian’s book provides a unique behind-the-scenes look at the music scene of that time, offering readers a glimpse into the lives of some of the era’s biggest artists and what the Minneapolis music scene was like at that time.” Lemmy – Copyright DiWulf Publishing Rancid – Copyright DiWulf Publishing Photos of wild nights, amazing performances, and general rock n’ roll weirdness abound. “Pushed” will be available for purchase at Mpls Photo Center during the entire run of Brian Garrity’s show, and it is also available on the DiWulf Publishing website (diwulf.com) and Amazon.
