Legendary comic book artists Joe Corroney and Brian Miller selected by Lucasfilm to create exclusive new artwork Diana Marsh, May 2, 2022 Photo courtesy of Oktoplis GET A SNEAK PEEK OF THE STAR WARS CELEBRATION ART SHOW ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA MAY 2, 2022 — Artist Joe Corroney and Brian Miller have been selected by Lucasfilm to create two new exclusive illustrations for Star Wars Celebration. This new Star Wars artwork is being revealed to fans and collectors for the first time on May 2, 2022 and will be available for pre-order from Dark Ink Art and ACME Archives gallery. Star Wars Celebrations is back, live and in person for the first time since 2019. This year thousands of fans will travel to California for Star Wars Celebration May 26-29, 2022 at the Anaheim Convention Center just steps away from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland. Hundreds of artists were considered for the Star Wars Celebration Art Show, in the end Lucasfilm and the panel of judges narrowed down their selection to a few dozen artists chosen to create exclusive new illustrations for the event. One of the featured artist, Brian Miller, is already known for his illustrations for Smithsonian, Star Wars, Hot Wheels, Doctor Who, The X-Files, Archer, GI Joe, The Simpsons, and more. Brian’s Star Wars artwork has been featured at events like EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, Disney’s D-23 Expo, and Comic-Con International, as well as seen in books, magazines, and trading cards. Comic book readers will also recognize Brian Miller as the founder of comic color studio Hi-Fi, where he and the team at Hi-Fi color comics for publishers like DC, IDW, Image, Dark Horse, and others. When asked about his artwork for Celebration Miller says, “My inspiration for Date Nite at Black Spire Outpost came from my own first journey to Batuu in 2019. Joe Corroney and I were both there with a large group of friends from the world of comic books, as well as from Lucasfilm and Disney. As the sunsets and night falls on Batuu and you first see the spires and the Millennium Falcon under starlight it sort of takes your breath away. In my case, I had to hold back tears. Joe and I and all our friends had so much fun taking turns in the different seats on Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, and eating at Ronto Roasters while fireworks lit up the night sky. I was captivated by the sights and sounds of Black Spire Outpost that night and when I arrived back at my hotel room I immediately started drawing in my sketchbook.” Miller continues, “The famous Date Night at Disneyland promos from the 1950s were a major influence I wanted to pay homage to. During those years Disneyland promoted special ‘Date Nites’ on the weekends, featuring live music, dancing, and even tickets to ‘romantic rides’. Date Nite kicked off after the Fantasy in the Sky fireworks and ran until midnight. Spending a magical night under the stars at Disneyland in the 1950’s must have been something special. I hoped to capture a bit of that retro magic and imagine what the perfect Date Nite at Black Spire Outpost might look like. This illustration gives each of us the chance to imagine our own dream date nite in a galaxy far, far away. It is an honor and a privilege to have this illustration featured in the Star Wars Celebration art show” Brian Miller will once again be appearing at Star Wars Celebration with legendary sci-fi Artist Joe Corroney. New for 2022 each artist will be featured at their own table. Brian in the Celebration Art Show area sponsored by ACME Archives and Joe at booth 2311 where he will have a large variety of Star Wars artwork available for purchase. Joe is well known for his stunning Star Wars paintings as well as his work for sci-fi projects like The X-Files, Star Trek, and Doctor Who. Fans will recognize Joe’s artwork from Star Wars Insider magazine, Topps trading cards, and his many appearances at Disney Parks and comic cons where his work regularly sells out. Joe will have many new illustrations available at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim and may be available for a limited number of sketch commissions if time permits. When asked about his exclusive artwork Joe says, “I wanted to share my love for Solo: A Star Wars Story through my artwork that captured the adventure and excitement I feel whenever I watch this movie. I imagined this scene with Han and Chewie in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon blasting off through hyperspace on to their next adventure sometime shortly after the events of the first film. I’m still holding out hope for a sequel or a Disney Plus series with these characters and if enough fans and collectors respond favorably to this art that Lucasfilm and Disney will make Solo 2 happen.” Both artists will be attending Star Wars Celebration Anaheim May 26th – 29th where they will have a selection of limited edition, officially licensed Star Wars artwork available for attendees. “Joe and I are thrilled to share our Star Wars art with everyone at Celebration,” comments Miller, “Seeing longtime Star Wars fans again and spending time with the other illustrators makes it that much more special.” Joe Corroney adds, “There’s definitely a feeling of family among all of us Star Wars artists. It’s like a reunion, we catch up with each other at Celebration.” Star Wars Celebration Anaheim runs May 26th – 29th, 2022.
