I’m proud my art has graced the covers 14 times! Happy Anniversary HM!” –Olivia de Berardinis “Heavy Metal ushered in an extraordinarily inspiring period for the comics art form.” -William Stout “Heavy Metal has been a huge inspiration to me. As a kid that movie just blew me away and took me to another place. When I first picked up the mag which was around 1980 there was nothing like it on the newsstands. That feeling of each new issue with those bad-ass covers was like magic to me back in the day. VIVA HEAVY METAL!!! ” -Brian M. Viveros “When I was a younger, probably around 16, I was in a Tower Records and noticed a magazine with dragons and skulls and a hot lady on the cover and quickly slid it into a Thrasher magazine so as to thumb through the pages without my Mom asking “what are you looking at?” Later on, having acquired a few of these magazines, I was taken by the quality of the rendering and storytelling that the artists were pulling off. Some of the best artwork I have ever seen came from the pages of that magazine and It was a sort of benchmark for pushing myself as an artist knowing that people in this day and age were making these kind of pieces. ” Greg ‘CRAOLA’ Simkins “It absolutely transfixed me. It was everything that I loved about art that I wasn’t even aware of yet. I got completely immersed within the cover art and the stories that lived within the pages. Heavy Metal became like my very own Bible. It was like having a religious experience with every issue and I couldn’t wait for the next one to come out.” –David Stoupakis About Heavy Metal: First published in 1977, Heavy Metal, the world’s foremost illustrated fantasy magazine, explores fantastic and surrealistic worlds, alternate realities, science fiction and horror, in the past present and future. Writers and illustrators from around the world take you to places you never dreamed existed. Heavy Metal was the first magazine to bring European legends Moebius, Tanino Libertore, Phillippe Druillet, Enki Bilal, Pepe Moreno to the U.S. as well as showcasing American superstars Richard Corben and Berni Wrightson. The magazine continues to showcase amazing new talent as well as allowing established creators to have “carte blanche”. Heavy Metal magazine is now published six times per year. Most issues feature one serialized graphic novel, several short stories, an artist gallery and artist studio section, a dossier and editorial pages.
