Dark Star’s Animated Gore-fest Attack Of The Demons Hits VOD October 30th And Is An Absolute Need In Your Life Diana Marsh, October 26, 2020October 26, 2020 South Park Meets Evil Dead. The premise is pretty routine; cult summons a demon who in turn makes more demons by slaughtering the town people to make enough demons to resurrect the king of the demons to destroy the world and it’s up to three nerdy outsiders to save the day. The storyline isn’t new but the way the movie goes about it is fresh, wonderfully creepy, and just great horror-themed fun. The animation is extremely detailed and impressive. The dialog however leaves something to be desired. Photo courtesy of Directors Notes. So it’s 1994, and a small town known as Barrington in the mountains of Colorado is holding a fairly large music festival just in time for Halloween. With the festival comes lots out-of-towners and with so many new bodies walking around a demon possed cult leader decides it’s also the perfect time to resurrect the king of the demons via creating a multitude of mutating demons who’s blood can quickly kill living creatures turning them into mutating demons as well. It’s a very fluid process (sorry, bad pun) with no one immune to its effects. In the chaos of the attack three friends who went to high school together in Barrington years before and reconnected over the festival find themselves caught in a battle of life and death with only one possible way out- getting up to a little cabin in the woods on the side of the mountain and away from the hellscape. It’s safe, secure, and not at all surrounded by infected possessed wildlife. You know it’s bad when they get to the birds. Photo courtesy of Animation For Adults. So with few options available and even fewer people to help, the trio of outsiders pull together, kill the newly created Demon King, nobody else dies in the process and they never have to explain to authorities what actually happened in Barrington to kill so many people. No, that’s not all what happened, but I don’t want to ruin the fun stuff. Bottom line, the animation is fantastic, the music is interesting, and definitely relishes its indie/hipster vibe (it insists upon itself-Peter Griffin), the dialog needs some rework ( hey even in the 90’s we didn’t use that many awkward pauses and drift-offs in our sentences) but overall this is a solid piece of work that was completely worth my time and will most certainly be worth yours too.
