Dark Horse Releases Latest Orville Comic Launch Day Part One And We’re Pretty Damn Happy About It Diana Marsh, September 7, 2020 David Goodman, David Cabeza, and Michael Atiyeh have taken the Orville Comic series to next-level storytelling. While we all patiently wait for season 3, The Orville comics have been a great distraction from our own personal fandom frustration, and Launch Day Part 1 is no different. With a new storyline involving our favorite pro-Avis antagonists getting far too psyched about starting a war with a planet doing some suspicious remodeling just on the other side of Union Airspace, Launch Day really dives deep into the complex politics of keeping the peace, protecting your own, and going out on a limb to save someone who may or may not have become your worst enemy. Or your former enemy’s worst enemy. War isn’t a straight line for those who actually seek peace. Sneak peek courtesy of Dark Horse Comics The comic starts off with a flashback to Ed Mercer as an aspiring ensign aboard the science vessel BOHR prepping a ship to take crewmen YCil back to his homeworld of Alibar, after learning they’ve mysteriously pulled out of the Planetary Union. Flash forward 20 years and while no one has been in contact with Alibar or knows why they left the Union, they’ve definitely been up to something, something that has the Krill on edge and ready to blow said something up (granted it doesn’t take much) regardless of what the intent of the Alibar people is with their new addition. After some heavy negotiations, the Krill graciously agree to take a breather and wait for a team from The Orville to look into the matter. The team is only given two days to complete the mission, with Union Command somewhat siding with the Krill under the idea that if it looks like a weapon and sounds like a weapon you should probably strike first and be proven wrong later. While Ed, Kelley, Malloy, and LaMar head to the planet to get the lowdown, Bortus is tasked with babysitting the Krill ships waiting nearby the Orville just to make sure they don’t break their word and go try to blow planet Alibar up out of paranoia. Or try to blow the Orville up for ….reasons. It could go either way with that happy-go-lucky crowd. Photo courtesy of Dark Horse Comics All in all this new release is fantastic. The storytelling is first-rate and becoming more fluid and more complex with each comic, the artwork is really superb, very deep and purposeful with the comic as a whole reflecting everything that we love about the series. Absolutely worth your hard-earned scratch. If you can’t get out to your local comic book store to pick it up, here’s a link to our own personal Avis AKA Amazon, that not only has the new release Launch Day part 1 but the previous comics as well.
