CNBC Super Heists Featuring The Theft Of Nixon’s Campaign Slush Fund Premieres August 9th 10:00 PM EST Diana Marsh, August 10, 2021 From bank robberies and rare art heists to pilfered collectable books worth millions, Super Heists has your need for outrageous crimes covered. It’s an interesting dive into not only the robberies themselves but into the tactics law enforcement used to finally crack the cases. First up is the infamous robbery of Laguna Niguel’s United California Bank where it was rumored that President Nixon had stashed 30 million dollars in a safety deposit box for political emergencies. It was supposed to be an easy, normal run-of-the-mill robbery but things didn’t go as planned and now decades later, those involved are telling their side of the story. Thanks to a tip from the Mob, a group of individuals (Amil Dinsio, Harry Barber, James Dinsio, Charles Mulligan, Phil Christopher, and Charles Broeckel) from Youngstown, Ohio who were known for their unbelievable skills at robbing banks and evading law enforcement decided to head out to beautiful Laguna Niguel for the ultimate heists; the Nixon slush fund. Throughout this episode Amil Dinsio and the FBI agents (now retired) who headed up the manhunt to catch the crew somewhat take turns giving their side of the story of how things really went down, with very few disagreements over the facts of the case. While the bank robbers didn’t hit the Nixon jackpot they still walked away with millions by means and methods that are still talked about to this day. In fact, it is believed that Nixon was so pissed at the loss of his scratch that over 120 FBI agents were assigned to capture Amil and his cohorts. Regardless if Nixon was involved in unleashing the copious amount of agents onto the case it did end up taking the largest FBI manhunt since the assassination of JFK to track the thieves down and bring them in. As far as the episode goes, it’s solid and definitely brims with that slightly cheesy but factually based format that American Greed is also known for so no surprises here. So far the re-enactments are good, not too over-the-top or oddly produced, and you get a clean look at both sides of the pilferage. If you’re a fan of American Greed you will definitely enjoy Super Heists.
