Black Metal Band OFFERNAT Shares 16 Minute Track From Upcoming Album Terry Bunch, March 9, 2024 Danish black/doom metal duo OFFERNAT heads into new territory on their second LP, Where Nothing Grows, set to be released through Indisciplinarian at the end of March. Today sees the release of the sixteen-minute-long album title track as the record’s sole single, while physical and digital album preorders have also been made available. The follow-up to their 2022 debut album, All Colours Retract, on Where Nothing Grows, OFFERNAT has taken some major leaps in terms of sound and songwriting. While maintaining the focus on longform songs, OFFERNAT draws on a variety of inspiration from doom, sludge, and black metal, which all intersect and cut deeper into the core of the music. As a result, Where Nothing Grows showcases a more focused attitude towards songwriting and invites the listener on an unpredictable voyage through chaotic transitions, punishing aggression, and yet unheard emotional depths. As two human beings living in an ever-changing society, dealing with difficult emotions is a part of life for OFFERNAT. Through experiencing complete alienation from a world dominated by rich, white men, the subject of being human is often accompanied by feelings of anger, melancholy, and desperation. In seeking an honest expression of themselves, these feelings are navigated in an attempt to convey them into music. Therefore, Where Nothing Grows has a newfound personal honesty to it, portraying not only growth as songwriters and musicians, but also as people. By exploring these personal aspects, it is the band’s hope that the listener will be immersed in the experience and gain something from it too. In the act of sharing difficult emotions together, both artist and listener can establish bonds of understanding and acceptance. As fans and listeners of music themselves, the members of OFFERNAT are aware of this reciprocal relationship between sender and receiver. Where Nothing Grows is their contribution to help build an emotional safe space and a community that is truly inclusive for all who love the more extreme parts of the metal genre. Where Nothing Grows was recorded by Simon Sonne Andersen at Full Moon Studio in September 2023 and mixed in the subsequent months by Andersen and OFFERNAT, while mastering was handled by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Obituary, Vastum, Necrot). The album artwork was created by Stefan Thanneur, the album completed with additional art by Rotting Reign, logo by Azeta, photography by Theis Wilmer Poulsen, and design by Nikolaj Borg.
