Box sets, live shows, and fully healed band members highlight 2022 for British Metal titans Judas Priest. Singer and frontman Rob Halford joined host Remy Maxwell for a special Audacy Check In to unpack it all.

Following the tumultuous pandemic, Judas Priest’s 50 Years of Heavy Metal commemorations are going into overdrive this year with tour dates and expansive box sets, as well as new music coming shortly. Of course, there’s also Rob’s new autobiography, Confess. Obviously, it’s already proven to be a hectic couple of years for the rock titan.

[5:30] — “We’ve tried our best not to replicate anything we’ve done…Each record has a distinctive character, and it’s tough because [of what] fans want, but always full of adventure and trying new stuff. Probably has some more progressive elements that we’ve never delved into. Give our fans the opportunity to see another side of Judas Priest, but it’s still metal.”

[9:04] — Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination. “Like I said on the first nomination, and I’ll say on this one, perhaps it’s about getting some more metal into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It’s a great establishment for what it should be, to represent all of these figures in music, it’s always a place that’s full of emotion and passion because that’s what music generates…We’re a little ahead of Lionel Richie at the moment. This is why it’s such an eclectic bunch this year.”

[7:30] — Live cuts box set. “They’re really important, because this box set, like any box set, should try and tell the story of your life in music, and you want to get an opportunity to do this in 50 years…It’s going to be a thrill to be out with these guys.”
