American Greed Season 14 Continues With Everyone’s Favorite Drug Lord El Chapo And The Protégés That Took Him Down Diana Marsh, May 23, 2021May 24, 2021 We’ve got him! The second time is the charm, am I right? Nope. El Chapo after his second arrest by Mexican Marines but it wouldn’t be his last. Photo by All That Is Interesting. Season 14 of American Greed is another journey through stories of Made In America greed that might shock, might offend, but usually makes you think “huh.” The story of El Chapo’s daring escapes and arrests are common knowledge and have even begun to work themselves into pop culture but with this episode, we get a look into the lives of the cartel wives, but not of Emma Coronel Aispuro ( El Chapo’s wife) but that of Olivia and Mia Flores, the wives of Joaquín Guzmán’s American protégés Peter and Jay Flores, who ultimately handed their mentor over to Federal authorities in an effort to save their families from the ever-increasing violence of the drug trade. Peter and Jay Flores grew up in the drug trade during the ’80s when Chicago truly blossomed into the massive drug hub we know today (no offense Chicago.) It didn’t take long for the Flores brothers to hit their stride and cultivate a respectable reputation among the cartels, including the Sinaloa Valley cartel owned and operated by El Chapo himself who took a liking to the brothers and brought them into his fold like one of his own. Along the way, Peter and Jay met Olivia and Mia whom they married and eventually moved to Mexico where the brothers could evade capture by the American DEA for their drug crimes and just live the sweet cartel life. When the reality of cartel life sinks in the Flores brothers have a change of heart and decide to work with American authorities on a plan to bring their boss down, and did so in spectacular fashion although there were a few missteps along the way that involved escape tunnels (again) corrupt authorities (again) and one freed Joaquín Guzmán (again.) I mean it’s a full-on, exclusive interview with American Greed where their identities are not concealed and they share a few personal stories of their experiences, including how and why they got involved, so things have obviously different now we just don’t get to hear the rest of their backstory, which is a real shame. The show is highly rated for a reason, and with shows like “Inside El Chapo’s Empire,” it will continue to be the CNBC staple its audience has come to know and love. Catch it here starting Monday, June 7th at 10:00 ET/PT.
