School’s Back In Session For ALICE COOPER Biographical Comic Book
Bluewater Productions announced today two new comic book biographies from their popular series focusing on influential musicians. The first, Orbit: Alice Cooper features the iconic rocker in a tale designed to give the reader a glimpse into his history. The second, Female Force: Women of the Eighties: Madonna, Cher, Kylie Minogue, Joan Jett, Olivia Newton-John, and Whitney Houston, features the careers of the women who influenced a generation with their unique sound and powerful vocals. This summer, Bluewater released comic book featuring Kurt Cobain, David Bowie, and Freddie Mercury as part of their Tribute series. Past books have featured Paul McCartney, Prince, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Keith Richards.
Alice Cooper is a man, a band, and an idea that took on a life of its own, a voice for shock and glitter rockers whose influence created stars like Marilyn Manson and KISS. Behind the paint, the boa constrictors, and the staged executions is a man whose creative energies gave rise to a legend. Half-truth, half fiction, Alice Cooper defines fame.
“It was fun doing this comic and i am a big fan of Alice Cooper since a teenager. Alice Cooper is a living legend yet his music still feels fresh,” said interior artist Jayfri Hashim, whose work has been featured in other Bluewater titles, including Political Power: Chris Christie.
Written by Michael Frizell with art by Hashim, Orbit: Alice Cooper features, three collectable covers, one by famed rock artist David Frizell, whose work graces the interior and covers of albums from Avenged Sevenfold, Wednesday 13, and others.
“Alice Cooper’s visual style influences my work,” said alternate cover artist David Frizell. “He’s a pioneer in the field of shock rock.”
“He’s the consummate showman,” said writer Michael Frizell, a frequent contributor to Bluewater. “The comic book practically writes itself!”
Michael and David Frizell, brothers from East Brunswick, New Jersey who moved to Kansas as children when their father took a job with a railroad company, listened to Cooper, KISS, and other fantasy rock artists as they adjusted to their new lives in the Midwest. “Cooper’s appearance on The Muppet Show was both fun and startling. It certainly made me think and the creative possibilities,” said Michael Frizell. David added, “Cooper made me a lover of music and fired my imagination.”
Also out this week is the graphic novel, Female Force: Women of the 80’s: Madonna, Cher, Kylie Minogue, Joan Jett, Olivia Newton-John, and Whitney Houston, a compilation of Bluewater’s popular one-shots featuring strong women who influenced American culture.
