Metal Life Attends ‘Hollywood Cool’ Exhibit Preview Party
Metal Life Magazine was invited to a private party celebrating the opening of the ‘Hollywood Cool’ exhibit at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in the Marquis Hotel in West Hollywood, CA. ‘Hollywood Cool’ celebrates some of the photography of the great Hollywood photographer John R Hamilton. The exhibit is open to the public from February 13th through February 22nd. Prints are available for purchase and 10% of the proceeds benefit the John Wayne Cancer Foundation.
The exhibit features candid photos of Hollywood legends such as Brigitte Bardot, Ann Margaret, Dean Martin, Clint Eastwood, Frank Sinatra, John Wayne, Kirk Douglas, Natalie Wood, Paul Newman and Steve McQueen among others.
John R Hamilton had the uncanny ability to capture raw moments in time while maintaining a true artistic approach to photography. Each image’s composition is perfect and each photo begs the viewer to stare and experience that particular moment in time. As we gazed into each photo, we were impressed with the fact that we truly felt like we were transported back in time and that we were sharing in the moment. We urge you to check out the exhibit and experience the wonder yourselves. This exhibit was truly a magical experience.
There was a party at the outside pool area where we all enjoyed drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Danny DeVito and members of John Wayne’s family were in attendance as well as the owners of the Morrison Hotel Gallery. The official gallery photographer provided some photos of the distinguished guests. (see below)
Metal Life photographer Rebecca had this to say about Hollywood Cool:
“Hollywood Cool” was was exactly that — Cool. In every sense of the word. To be able to attend such an event like this, was truly inspiring. There were a lot of photographs that stole my heart; But nothing like two in particular. First off, the 16×24 photograph of Kirk Douglas on location for the film “There was a Crooked Man” . There was this “homieness” to the setting that drew me in. Almost instantly pulling me back to camping trips with my parents.
The other photograph was the 60×26 of John Ford standing in the middle of the desert with his Directors chair –The vibrant colors amongst the rest of the black and white photographs was a compelling aspect to this particular arrangement. There is also a really great story behind the process of capturing this photo. However, I’ll leave it up to you to have a visit and find out for yourself; Because I highly recommend visiting this gallery while it’s in the area.
