GORGUTS: Announce tour dates

Death metal pioneers GORGUTS have announced a string of headlining shows leading to and from this year’s Hopscotch Festival. The trek, which begins on September 5th in Springfield VA, will travel through the festival before ending on September 8th in Worcester, MA. A full list of confirmed tour dates can be found below.

GORGUTS were recently signed to Season of Mist. The band is currently working on writing and recording a forthcoming release.
Regarding the signing and new album, founding member Luc Lemay said:

“Dear fans,

It’s with so much joy and happiness that I write these lines to you. The past 2 years haven’t always been smooth sailing regarding this last record. A lot of legal, important factors, far from music composition have held this project in standby, but finally that’s all behind us now. The least I can say is that I cannot wait to share these last compositions with each of you.

Everything from writing these new songs, traveling to NYC for rehearsals developing a new friendship with John, Kevin and Colin, three of the most talented people I ever jammed with…everything from this project was beyond stimulating artistically.

From this experience was born a new GORGUTS record, a concept record which is going to last over an hour. An hour of epic, ambient, dark music which doesn’t compromise its Death Metal roots. As a composer, by exploring different kind of music, it was always my goal to integrate the same writing tools in Death Metal as if I would be writing a piece of chamber music for instance.
Well, I’m really eager to share this new record with you! All I can say is that the wait is over and that 2013 will be a great year for GORGUTS. Thanks to each of you for your endless support since the very beginning and your endless patience for this record to be released! Without you none of this would be possible.

Thank you from the heart,

Luc Lemay”

Few extreme bands have the pedigree of GORGUTS. From their early days as part of death metal’s first wave (including their legendary Roadrunner releases ‘Considered Dead’ and ‘Erosion of Sanity’), through their transformation into one of  most progressive and influential bands in extreme metal, GORGUTS has been impervious to trends, and a vehicle to expand and redefine the language of extreme metal.

The band’s 1998 album ‘Obscura’ sent a shockwave through the death metal word, and remains one of the genre’s most influential records to this day. Taking inspiration from classical composers, Lemay’s use of atonal noise and sounds as part of his compositions helped reinvent extreme metal guitar playing. Lemay’s techniques on ‘Obscura’ continue to be a major influence for young metal players to this day.

After a hiatus, Lemay reformed GORGUTS in 2008. GORGUTS returned to the live circuit for the first time in over 10 years as main support for the legendary ‘Death To All’ tour in 2012, and followed it up with a handful of European festival dates, including MetalCamp, Brutal Assault Festival, Rock Im Betwonwerk, Metal Mean Festival, and more.

GORGUTS is: Luc Lemay- Guitar and Vocals, Kevin Hufnagel (DYSRYTHMIA) -Guitar, Colin Martsom (DYSRYTHMIA, BEHOLD THE ARCTOPUS, KRALLICE) – Bass, and John Longstreth (ORIGIN, DIM MAK) – Drums
